Amitabh Bachchan - Ram Gopal Varma chooses Amitabh Bachchan over Shahrukh Khan

Director Ram Gopal was supposed to start his film on Time Machine with Shahrukh and Kareena in September. However things took a turn when Varma went ahead with his other project with Amitabh Bachchan based on the Hollywood film Lolita. This upset Shahrukh Khan as he was of the view that Varma was working on the pre-production of his film. Rumours of the ongoing tiff between Bachchan and Khan also did not help the situation. Unfortunately now Varma has decided to scrap his Time Machine project with Shahrukh completely.

Instead Ram Gopal will be going ahead with his cherished dream project, Ramgopal Varma Ki Sholay with Amitabh Bachchan. Says Varma Yes its true that Im starting Sholay. This should put an end to all the speculation about whether I intend to make the film or not. In fact Im starting it in September. Varmas earlier film with Shahrukh was also supposed to take off in September. But Varma confirms Yes, But since Ive decided to scrap Time Machine, Ill start Sholay. Varma has now decided to concentrate his time and efforts on his forthcoming productions with Bachchan senior in the sequel to Sarkar and an epic film.

Sources claim that Varmas comments, terming Karans film as a horror flick was not taken well by Shahrukh Khan. Karan and Shahrukh share a very close relationship; they not only work well with each other, but also have a very good personal relationship. However Varma defended his remark on Karans film by saying When I called Karans film a horror film, I was actually paying Karan a backhanded compliment as Im not capable of making a film like that. Karan is a sweet person and I wish him all the best for his film Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna.

Sholay is one of Varmas favourite films and he is very excited to make his take on the film along with his favourite actor, Amitabh in the lead. Well we wonder what Shahrukhs reaction to Varmas decision is. Kareena Kapoor too was supposed to be a part of the film opposite Shahrukh, rumours about her leaving Harry Bawejas film on Time Machine to do Varmas film have been circulating in the industry for quite sometime.
