Alleged al-Qaida Agent Arrested in Germany

German authorities have detained a man on suspicion of al-Qaida membership and links to an alleged operative wanted in connection to the September 11, 2001, terror attacks in the United States.
Federal prosecutors Saturday announced that a 36-year-old German of Moroccan decent (identified only as Redouane EH) was arrested in Hamburg Thursday.
They accuse him of having numerous contacts with an international network of violent Islamic militants and of training at a terrorist camp in Algeria in 2005.
Authorities say they gathered evidence by monitoring the alleged agent’s conversations in Internet chat rooms.
He is also accused of acting as a messenger for a German national (Said Bahaji) who is believed to have provided support for the hijackings of American airplanes on September 11, 2001.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in those terrorist attacks.
